Our History and Transition
Founded in 2013 as Foulsham & Geddes, the firm built a strong reputation over many years as a general commercial law practice in Sydney. Foulsham & Geddes served clients with distinction and developed broad expertise across business, property, family, estate, and litigation matters. In 2024, after decades of service under the Foulsham & Geddes name, the firm rebranded to Jake McKinley, marking the start of a new era. This transition reflects an evolution in the firm’s leadership and ethos – the new name embodies a renewed commitment to excellence, accessibility, and inclusivity in our practice. While our identity is refreshed, we continue to uphold the tradition of quality service and integrity that has always defined the firm. Our motto, “Brilliance in Practice,” captures this balance between carrying forward our proven experience and striving for innovation in serving our community.
In 2024, we also acquired Sydney Legal Advisers, a Hurstville-based firm, further strengthening our capabilities and expanding our service offering. This strategic acquisition has enabled us to better support clients with broader expertise and deeper resources across our practice areas.
Our Team and Leadership
Today, Jake McKinley Pty Ltd is led by Principal Solicitor Jacob Carswell-Doherty, who brings extensive experience across a wide range of legal areas. Jacob’s background includes expertise in property, commercial and corporate law, finance, dispute resolution, insolvency and bankruptcy – as well as over a decade of practice in family and employment law. Under his leadership, our team of lawyers and support staff continues to deliver the personalized service our clients expect. We are proud to have senior practitioners with decades of experience alongside energetic junior lawyers who contribute fresh perspectives. This blend of seasoned insight and modern outlook ensures that every client matter is handled with both wisdom and vigour. Our solicitors are admitted to practice in New South Wales (with many also admitted to the High Court of Australia), allowing us to represent clients in state and federal jurisdictions when necessary. We maintain a collaborative, collegial environment within the firm, which means our clients benefit from the collective knowledge of the whole team.
